Warrior King

Curtis Campbell, Gleaner WriterReggae artiste Warrior King has released a new reggae album called Tell Me How Mi Sound. The artiste, who made his debut in the music industry in the early 2000s with his hit Virtuous Woman, says the new album is as authentic as they come.
"A lot of thought, meditation and dedication went into this album because I wanted to maintain the value of roots reggae music. It's not about what music can do for you as a person, but what it can do for the world. Reggae music is a life-changing force for the world, so we just do good material that will last for ages," Warrior Kings said.
Tell Me How Mi Sound is being distributed by Tads Records and has been getting reasonable airplay locally. However, in Europe the tracks are said to be picking up at a faster rate.
Warrior King's publicist, Noel Mack, told The Sunday Gleaner the artiste's progress in Europe was expected.
"An album of this standard is not going to be in heavy rotation locally, and it is sad to say, but it's true. Some of the more popular stations that target the youth are more concerned with the hype than with sending a positive message. But places like Europe where hype and bling bling is not at the forefront of their meditation, some deep and meaningful content is priceless," he said.
Unchallenged success
According to Mack, Jimmy Cliff's Grammy Award-winning Rebirth album is largely unknown to the Jamaican youths. However, its success is unchallenged by any of the popular songs in regular rotation in Jamaica.
Mack thinks this is testimony to the fact that the world is craving for deeper content.
"This artiste is not a man of swag and bling this and bling that. His music resonates with the soul like when Buju Banton seh Rasta Got Soul, that is the level we are at and this album is a collector's item that will not die, so just go get a copy of Tell Me How Mi Sound and trust me, you will see reggae music still breathes though our crop of roots reggae artistes," he said.
The album has 19 tracks and is propelled by singles like Melody and Stand Up Inna Di Fire, which have already charted in Europe.
A music video for Melody was recently released worldwide.
Warrior King is executing a worldwide promotional tour called 'Sing Like An Angel' in support of the album. He recently completed the first leg, performing at venues in New Orleans, Chicago, Texas, Arizona and Cleveland in the United States.
The second leg will see the reggae artiste tackling Europe, making appearances in Germany, Italy, France, Sweden, Holland and Belgium, among other places.
The reggae artiste also received some crossover success after collaborating with Canadian rapper J-Rich, in an effort called Love And Joy.
The song is already receiving steady rotation in Canada. Warrior King is looking forward to upcoming performances in Merida, Playa del Carmen and Chetumal in Mexico, and in French Guiana and Belize before his departure to complete the second leg of his tour in June.
