Kingston College (KC) and St George's College will be seeking to win the KFC/Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA)-Under-19 and Under-16 titles, respectively, when they take on Wolmer's Boys' and Ardenne in game two of the best-of-three finals today at the National Stadium courts.
Both teams lead the series 1-0 following victory in game one last Thursday at the same venue. KC will enter today's contest oozing confidence, after recording an exciting 52-48 win over the previously unbeaten and defending champions, Wolmer's.
"I hope we will close it out and I know we will," said KC's head coach, Dennis Thompson. "I think what we will have to do is to play better defence and execute our offence."
Thompson added: "It is always a good feeling when you are leading, but you have to be careful about the people behind you."
slow start
In order for Wolmer's to level the series, they will have to stop KC's free-scoring shooting guard Clifton Jean, who netted a game-high 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in game one. Wolmer's also got off to a slow start in that game, which saw them trailing their opponents 30-22 at half-time.
Howard Harvey, coach of Wolmer's, expects his team to bounce back.
"In basketball, you do whatever you have to do to win and we must do whatever we need to do to win this series," said Harvey. "I know that we are mentally prepared and the boys are ready, and so we are just going to go out and execute our game plan, and from there on we will see what happens."
Meanwhile, St George's are also confident of winning game two against Ardenne, after their comfortable 49-35 win in game one.
